The Polyurea Development Association Europe (PDA Europe) is the official trade association for the European Polyurea industry. Registered as an official, international not-for-profit association under Belgian law, PDA Europe promotes the highest possible standards for polyurea. Leading experts from across Europe's chemical industry make up the membership base of PDA Europe providing expert advice on product quality. The association also offers best practice information on areas of environmental consideration and safety and provides an established networking forum for key industry players to discuss the future of the polyurea market.

Polyureas SynSolve: polyurea as functional solution in automotive, aerospace and marine industries
On October 6, 2011 a first polyurea conference took place exclusively dealing with the Italian polyurea market. This conference was jointly organized by Consorzio PROCOAT, Politecnico di Torino sede di Alessandria and PDA Europe and took place in Alessandria. Some 50 participants, mostly applicators joined the meeting and discussed the various aspects of polyurea. The opening remarks by the Director General of PROCOAT where followed by an overview of PDA Europe, its history, structure and objectives. Then 9 presentations followed mostly provided by PDAE member companies. They span from several contributions dealing with raw materials and ready-to-apply systems all the way to the role of the spray equipment given by equipment manufacturers. The majority of the presentations introduced case studies of polyurea applications from all over Italy. By this it became evident that Italy today is a leading market for polyurea among the European countries. What was most surprising was the wide variety and creativity in polyurea applications shown by means of numerous examples. Beyond the well-known coating of parking areas or workshop floors there were many examples for roof and facade coating. A specific highlight was the use of polyurea to coat wooden roofs of high-class homes in Northern Italy specifically designed by architects. The combination of wooden roof panels with polyurea on top provides excellent energy efficiency and perfect weather resistance in a sometimes rough climate. The seamless polyurea coat on the roofs guarantees waterproofing at its best. The versatility of polyurea in architectural design was also demonstrated with individually sized and decoratively coated panels attached to the facade of a condominium giving it an elegantly individualized look. The inspiring presentations resulted in animated discussions during the late lunch with the last participants leaving only in the late afternoon. The organizers were fully satisfied with the resonance of the event and will consider repeating it in 2 or 3 years.

Call for papers - PDA Europe to organize polyurea session at UTECH Conference 2012
As at the last UTECH Conference in 2009 PDA Europe will again organise a Polyurea Day at this important international gathering of the polyurethane world.
The polyurea event will take place on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 and comprise up to 8 papers. This will clearly be an outstanding opportunity for PDA members to present the polyurea technology as well as themselves to a broad public. The contributions should cover 20 min presentation time incl. discussion. Please submit your proposal (title, authors, and abstract (Word document, ca. 10 lines) by August 1st latest.

Polyurea Status Report now available in English
PDA Europe now issued the English edition of the status report jointly worked out with Deutsche Bauchemie e.V. (German Association of Construction Chemicals Manufacturers).
This status report for the first time is highlighting the present situation of polyurea use in the European construction industry on 27 pages. The report provides information about the history of polyurea as well as definitions and differentiations from the related polyurethane technology. The most comprehensive part of the report deals with the many application areas of polyurea. Though in some areas polyurea use is more widespread outside Europe especially in the US and increasingly in Asia there are many examples in Europe as well. The emerging character of this technology leads to the fact that in some cases the report rather shows the future potential than noteworthy actual use. This is partly due to the dense European regulatory systems where the young technology normally is not expressly incorporated. However, along with information about relevant German and European regulations given the report comes to the conclusion that polyurea as a liquid plastic material like other established liquid systems is definitely covered by most of the European performance-oriented regulations. Various chapters of the report deal with manufacturing, formulation and especially important with processing of polyurea systems. The raw materials are discussed under aspects of human safety and environmental behaviour. Last but not least references are made to safe transportation, recycling and disposal.

Innovation Forum focussing on polyurea held February 24-25, 2010 sponsored by German Ministry of Science and Education
On February 24-25 PDA Europe member company Panadur GmbH hosted the "Innovationsforum Funktionale Oberflächen" in Halberstadt/Germany. The 2-days event was sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Science and Education and gathered around 90 participants attending the presentations and the small exhibition. Opening speeches of representatives from the Federal Ministry, the State Ministry of Saxony-Anhalt and the Region were followed by technical presentations highlighting the polyurea technology generally, their many application areas and specifically the combination with nanoparticles, machinery and equipment needed and methods for characterization of the final material. PDA Europe member companies present also introduced the association and invited the participants to join and learn more about polyurea. The attendants mostly represented small and mid-sized companies who by the majority did not yet deal with polyurea.
Accordingly there were lively discussions extending into the concluding dinner banquet and subsequent evening event. The objective of the Innovation Forum series is to give birth to local and regional networks and clusters of excellence. Thus the representative of the Federal Ministry pointed out expressly the intention to foster platform technologies hitherto insufficiently known to a broad public. Documentation of the papers and follow up activities are planned.
